ScarJo, Tilda Face More 'Whitewashing' Backlash -- For a Movie About Dogs

Wes Anderson's latest film, "Isle of Dogs," won't hit theaters until April 2018, but the film's poster is already raising eyebrows, along with accusations of more Hollywood whitewashing.

There are a handful of notable names on the poster, which was revealed Tuesday. Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston and Scarlett Johansson are all listed on the film which has been described by Anderson with very little detail.

All we know so far is that "Isle of Dogs" is based on a boy's journey in search of his dog, set in Japan. The film's poster shows an image of a man alongside a few furry friends, and also includes traditional Japanese text in a vibrant red color.

It's interesting to see yet another film that has traditional Asian details is surrounded by a cast of mostly white actors, including Johansson and Swinton, who were recently slammed with backlash for their roles in "Ghost in the Shell" and "Doctor Strange."

Swinton famously went head-to-head with Margret Cho in an email exchange after Cho said the role of Doctor Strange should have been played by an Asian actress. Similarly, many thought Johannason was wrongly cast as Major Motoko Kusanagi in "Ghost in the Shell."

After the poster for the new Anderson poster came a slew of comments via Twitter from users that noted this might be another instance of "whitewashing".
