Roger Ailes, ex CEO and founder of Fox News has died at age 77.

The news giant's passing was announced by his family, and later reported on Fox News. Ailes' official cause of death has not yet been revealed. TMZ reports that Ailes died days after suffering a serious fall.

In a statement to the channel, Ailes wife Elizabeth said "I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning. Roger was a loving husband to me, to his son Zachary, and a loyal friend to many. He was also a patriot, profoundly grateful to live in a country that gave him so much opportunity to work hard, to rise -- and to give back."

Ailes started Fox News in 1996. The channel grew immensely in ratings under Ailes, later going on to become a main contributing channel to right wing politics.

Ailes was outed at Fox in 2016 after anchor Gretchen Carlson sued him for sexual harassment.

Celebrities and notable figures have been reacting to Ailes death this morning on Twitter with very mixed thoughts.
