The new episode opens with an explosive gun battle between the Vultures and the Clarks with Lennie James and Garret Dillahunt caught in the crossfire (quite literally).
In the absence of a new episode of "Fear the Walking Dead" over the holiday weekend, AMC has released the first three minutes of the next episode, and it picks up right after a major character got shot in the closing moments of last week's episode.
Now fans don't have to wait a whole 'nother week to find out if John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt) survives being shot by Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey). Well, sort of.
At least in the opening moments of the episode, he's alive and still clearly both shocked and happy to see Naomi (Jenna Elfman). That makes him the only one, though, considering he got shot protecting her from Alicia's bullet. Why Alicia would shoot to kill her former ally remains to be seen in this time-tossed season.
That gunshot wasn't the only one we got, either, as it erupted into a full-on battle between our intrepid band of heroes (though the jury is heading back out to re-deliberate on the relative goodness of Alicia and the other original "Fear" cast-members) and the Vultures we'd seen perched outside the stadium in flashback sequences.
Apparently, the superior firepower that Alicia and company had picked up from their burial fakeout a couple of weeks ago was more than enough to overpower the numbers of the Vultures. As hellfire and rage was poured on them, Vulture leader Melvin (Kevin Zegers) announced it was time to go.
The only problem with this plan was that Naomi wanted to get the med kit from the ambulance to treat John. We may not know how she came to be with the Vultures, but we know by the end of this clip, they appear more than ready to leave her behind. But will Melvin survive that last explosion?
Here's to tense "family" reunions when "Fear the Walking Dead" returns next Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
