2018 MTV VMAs -- Everything You Didn't See on TV

The "Bad at Love" singer declined to go to Monday's event because she was trying to prove a point to the network.

Noticeably absent from Monday night's MTV Video Music Awards was Halsey, and now we know why.

The "Bad at Love" singer declined to go to the event because she was trying to prove a point to the network: Don't blow smoke up my you-know-what.

"I directed all my own music videos this album just to have MTV [Woman Crush Wednesday] me to death and not nominate me for anything, so it didn't feel right to go," she tweeted in response to a fan. "I'm happy you guys liked the videos. That's all that matters to me."

Halsey directed the videos for "Now or Never," "Bad at Love" and "Alone" from her 2017 sophomore album, "Hopeless Fountain Kingdom."

She performed at the 2016 VMAs with The Chainsmokers. In 2017, she scored three nominations.

Camila Cabello and Cardi B were the reigning queens of this year's musical event: Camila took home Video of the Year for "Havana" as well as Artist of the Year, and Cardi snagged Best New Artist, Best Song for "I Like It" and Best Collaboration along with DJ Khaled for Jennifer Lopez's bilingual track, "Dinero."
