Katie Holmes tried to trick us all!
The actress chatted with Yahoo Style about her surprising 2015 Met Gala look and bold new haircut ... which was actually just a wig.
While Katie definitely had us fooled with her Instagram shot prior to the annual event -- which showed Holmes doing a handstand as her hairdresser pretended to cut her long brown locks -- the "Dawson's Creek" alum says she was just having a little fun.
"Isn't that what Instagram's all about? You gotta play!" the actress told the site, while admitting the look was only temporary.
"We decided to go with the bob because it felt like the cleanest, simplest," she added. "I just wanted the attention to be focused on the dress ... on the back of the dress."
Holmes looked stunning at the Gala, wearing a custom Zac Posen dress for the "China: Through The Look Glass"-themed soiree. The designer was also the 36-year-old's date for the evening.
"I wanted to make sure there was just nothing, no hair anywhere, to let the design speak for itself," she continued.
But when asked if the mother-of-one would actually ever cut off her long locks again, Katie says she loves how low-maintenance her current style is. "I'm a ponytail girl!," she quipped.
While we probably won't be seeing Katie back in that wig anytime soon, she is keeping her stunning dress!
"That dress is very, very special," she says. "I am going to save it for my daughter. She better grow soon!"
We'd love to see Suri Cruise wearing that gorgeous gown one day!
