Anne Hathaway's exact role in "Ocean's 8" remains a bit of a mystery, or perhaps it's exactly what it appears to be on the surface: she is the victim of a very expensive heist. But could she be in on it?
Either way, we got our most substantial look at her work in the film on Thursday when the latest trailer for the Sandra Bullock crime comedy was released.
Over 20,000 People Want Matt Damon Cut From 'Ocean's 8'
View StoryThe latest sneak peek opens with Hathaway being interviewed by James Corden, asking her if she knows who Debbie Ocean (Bullock) is, and telling her that not only is she a convicted felon, but she's the sister to George Clooney's Danny Ocean from the previous "Ocean's 11" film series. "She was present on the night of the incident," Corden tells Hathaway.
"Oooh," she says, looking interested before scrunching her face in confusion and adding, "So...?"
And that's all we got of her, but we think that dumbfounded confusion was a little too put on, and especially as Hathaway is playing a famous actress in the film. Plus, Corden has been seen as a confidant to Debbie in previous trailers, so really this whole scene is a "what the--?"
The rest of the trailer gives us more of the sense of fun and excitement the film is going for, while setting up the basic premise of Debbie putting together an all-female team including Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter for the sole purpose of stealing a ridiculously expensive necklace that Hathaway will be wearing at the Met Gala.
"$16.5 million in each of your bank accounts five weeks from now," Bullock tells her team of six ladies.
Oh yeah, that's another thing. Bullock's team is seven ladies total, including her, but look at that film title and that quick shot of all eight ladies riding the subway together. We're feeling pretty good about our theory.

View StoryOr is that too obvious? Dakota Fanning is supposed to be in here somewhere, too, though we haven't seen her yet. Is it a double-fake? Man, now we're really gonna have to overthink this one.
"Ocean's 8" stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter, with appearances by James Corden, Richard Armitage, Damian Lewis, Matt Damon and Carl Reiner (and apparently Dakota Fanning, too). The film opens in theaters June 8.
