While he was supposed to be introducing Bruce Springsteen, De Niro simply walked on stage and said, "I'm just going to say one thing. F--k Trump!" As the audience erupted in cheers, De Niro quickly added, "It's no longer 'Down with Trump.' It's 'F--k Trump!"
Taking to his favorite social media platform on Tuesday, Trump tweeted:
"Robert De Niro, a very Low IQ individual, has received to many shots to the head by real boxers in movies. I watched him last night and truly believe he may be "punch-drunk." I guess he doesn't realize the economy is the best it's ever been with employment being at an all time high, and many companies pouring back into our country. Wake up Punchy!"
Many on Twitter quickly pointed out that he confused "to" and "too" in his tweet.
After De Niro's comments went viral Sunday night, CBS quickly responded as well. "Mr. De Niro's comments were unscripted and unexpected. The offensive language was deleted from the broadcast," the network said in a statement to Deadline.
