Egerton's singing skills are put on display as he attempts to take on pop legend Elton John in the biopic.
The first trailer for the Elton John biopic "Rocketman" is here.
"Rocketman," which stars Taron Egerton as the pop icon, follows the story of Elton's life, beginning from his years as a musical prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music, through his rise to stardom and his legendary partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin (played by Jamie Bell.)

View StoryThe one-minute clip starts with a montage, showing flashes of Egerton performing as the singer, playing the piano while donning Elton's outlandish and iconic costumes, singing in the studio, and falling into a pool wearing a printed robe. The trailer then reveals a winking Richard Madden, who plays Elton's manager and partner John Reid.
"There are moments in a rock star's life that define who he is," Madden's Reid says over the the montage. "Where there was darkness there is now you, and it's going to be a wild ride."
While the first half of the trailer includes the tune of Elton's hit song "Benny and the Jets," the clip then turns to Egerton performing "Rocketman" in front of a crowd. And yes, that's actually "The Kingsman" star singing.
The teaser concludes with the sparkly title and the words "based on a true fantasy."
It really is "going to be a long, long time" until we see Egerton in action, as the biopic -- which is still filming -- doesn't hit theaters until May 17, 2019.
The film also stars Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton's mother Sheila Eileen and is directed by Dexter Fletcher, who previously directed Egerton in the biopic "Eddie The Eagle." Fletcher also took over as director of the Queen biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody," following the exit of Bryan Singer.
