Everyone's favorite "street rat" is back in Disney's latest live-action adaptation of its classics.
Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, the Genie and Jafar are all back in action in the first trailer for Disney's upcoming "Aladdin."
Director Guy Ritchie's live-action remake of the 1992 animated film stars Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as the title hero, "Power Rangers" star Naomi Scott as the princess and Marwan Kenzari as the evil sorcerer on their tails.
While there is no Genie yet in the trailer, we do get a glimpse of his home as Aladdin reaches for it in the Cave of Wonders. Iago also offers up a bird's eye view of Agrabah and the sweeping desert vistas that surround it. Honestly, the whole thing looks visually stunning, already. And Aladdin, the only principal character we see, certainly looks the part.
Like the original, Al is described by Disney as a "hapless but lovable street rat who is smitten with the Sultan's daughter" and stumbles upon a magic lap inhabited by a wish-granting genie. Jafar is still up to no good, devising "a nefarious plot to unseat the Sultan and rule Agrabah himself."
Navid Negahban ("Homeland") plays Jasmine's father in the film, while Billy Magnussen ("Into the Woods") will appear as Prince Andrews, a new character and potential suitor for the princess. Nasim Pedrad ("SNL") plays one of her hand maidens.
Aladdin opens May 24, 2019.
