Ellen DeGeneres is insulted that she wasn't invited to the couple's wedding, while Priyanka insists they're insulted she didn't even respond to their invite.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas dropped by "Ellen" on Wednesday for her first televised appearance since her three-day wedding extravaganza to Nick Jonas on December 1, 2018.
The happy couple enjoyed two ceremonies, one a traditional Indian celebration and the other a "Western Christian" wedding, as Priyanka described it. And Ellen DeGeneres wasn't at either of them, though there was apparently some dispute as to whether or not she was invited.
Priyanka seemed committed to insisting Ellen was invited. "We were so offended that you didn't even respond to our invite," she said.
"That's not true, though," Ellen insisted. "There was no invite."
"I was like, we're not good enough for Ellen, like she wouldn't come to India. She doesn't even respond," Priyanka said, doubling down on her joke. "Nick, you've had such a great relationship with her. I was really offended for him, but I'm just the wife, I don't know anything."
Ellen used to be Nick's landlord as she once owned the condo he lived in. She thought that might be enough to warrant an invite, but it wasn't to be. As Priyanka explained it, though, the couple had decided on an "intimate" wedding, so there were only about 200 people in attendance.
Both Priyanka and Nick have enormous families so there just wasn't enough room to invite the gardener or the hairdresser, much to her mother's dismay.
At another point in the interview, Ellen asked about how Nick and Priyanka first met, and especially because she said that neither of them were particularly fans of the other's professional work? As it turns out, stars ... they're just like us.
"He DM'd me actually," Priyanka admitted. "So Millennial of us, right? He DM'd me on Twitter saying, 'I heard from common friends that we should meet. What do you think about that?"
It turns out she was definitely thinking about it because she'd familiarized herself with at least one of his songs. "I was like, 'Just text me,' 'Cause I'd seen 'Close' by then ... and I was like, 'Wowza!'"
The sensually-charged music video for the duet "Close" features Nick and Tove Lo stripped down to their underwear and sharing a wild and passionate intimacy in the middle of a massive airplane hanger.
It's safe to argue this video was one of the key components in Nick becoming an international sex symbol. Clearly, Priyanka was not immune to its charms, or its leading man.
Finally, Ellen had to surprise her with a classic Ellen-tinged wedding gift, "Even though I wasn't invited," and it is so gloriously over-the-top and ridiculous we can't fathom what Nick and Priyanka could possibly do with it. Check out the big reveal in the video below.
