"When you have two kidney transplants and are on steroids for life get back to me," Hyland said.
Sarah Hyland is hitting back at critics who are slamming her for wearing Spanx.
The "Modern Family" star, who suffers from a chronic genetic disorder called kidney dysplasia, rocked a stunning, hot pink Zac Posen gown at the Vanity Fair Oscar party Sunday night. On Tuesday, Hyland shared a compilation of photos from the event, captioning the post, "#funfact I'm wearing TWO pairs of spanx. Why diet? When you can just hide it!"

Since the actress is obviously very petite, there were many people who criticized Hyland wearing the shapewear and didn't take her comments about dieting lightly. "As a (thin) person with influence your caption is problematic," one person wrote, as pointed out by US Weekly. "You're suggesting that women should EITHER diet or hide. How about NEITHER." Another said, "Most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. She doesn't have an ounce of fat she's just so annoying lol."
In response, the "Dirty Dancing" star alluded she wore the Spanx to cover up bumps from her kidney transplant, as she retweeted a fan who wrote, "If you're trying to hide the bump from your transplant, forget it. I've been trying for years!! Stay healthy. #kidneystrong #transplantssavelives." Hyland replied, "Someone gets it!"
Later, Hyland clapped back at a user in a since-deleted tweet: "When you have two kidney transplants and are on steroids for life get back to me."
