Sarah Hyland's Body Positivity Message After Showing Post-Kidney Operations Figure at Teen Choice Awards

Sarah Hyland took a huge step in her own self confidence during the Teen Choice Awards Sunday night, stepping out not only to perform her new single with Jordan McGraw, but fearlessly doing so without wearing spanx.

The "Modern Family" star has admitted to wearing multiple spanx at previous public events due to being self-conscious about her figure after undergoing more than a dozen surgeries (16 total), including two kidney transplants while battling kidney displaysia and endometriosis.

As a result of the kidney surgeries, Hyland's stomach is somewhat distended now, which was something the actress was not comfortable having visibly on display on red carpets or at public events. However, thanks to her "ever changing self confidence," that may be changing.

For her Teen Choice Awards appearance, Hyland chose to forego the spanx accessory and has even gone so far as to embrace the figure she has by sharing a photo captured from the event that shows what she dubbed her "kidney upper p---y area" and absolutely owning it.

Hyland immediately got support from friends in the industry, with Lily Collins commenting, "Yeassss girl. So proud." Michelle Monaghan agreed, adding, "Yep. Everything about you is badass."

Meanwhile, her "Modern Family" costar Sofia Vergara simply sent several heart-hugging emojis, while actress Michelle Trachtenberg got a laugh out of Hyland by turning Hyland's acronym KUPA into a popular song parody: "HaKUPA Matata, it's a wonderful phrase, it means no worries for the rest of your days."

"You killed it!!! So much fun!," commented her co-headliner in the performance Jordan McGraw. But he was way more concerned about another roundness to focus on her KUPA. "Still jealous you got to ride in a giant beach ball."

In all honesty, we'd imagine that skipping the spanx for a singing appearance is a good idea as it would have to be harder to hit all those big notes if you can't fully expand your diaphragm. Plus, it's empowering to see women of all shapes and sizes embracing their figures on such a public platform as that goes a long way toward helping young girls and women do the same.
