The iconic singer says it can be "lonely at times" to live in "fake" Los Angeles -- plus, she has a strong message for her haters!
In a candid moment, Britney Spears has confessed that her life in Los Angeles can be "lonely" and she sometimes struggles to know who she can trust.
Her comments came attached to a quote she posted to Instagram that reads, "Pay close attention to the people who don't clap when you win." Alone, it's a powerful statement about what it's like to be winning at the highest levels in your profession only to be preyed upon, manipulated and exploited by those you thought were your friends or loved ones.
Sadly, it's a story told too often in Los Angeles, and one that Spears is clearly wary of. "Living in LA is such a trip," she captioned her post. "It can be lonely at times. You never know who to trust, and some people can be fake."
Of course, that's not just an L.A. thing, but there does seem to be a heightened wariness necessary to navigate the Hollywood lifestyle. And the more successful you become, the more predators will come to try and steal a piece of your fame and fortune.

Living in LA is such a trip !!! It can be lonely at times. You never know who to trust, and some people can be fake. I have a very small circle of friends, and simply do what makes me happy !!! It breaks my heart to see the comments on my posts sometimes .... so I simply choose not to look anymore ... let the clever haters do what they do best .... hate!!!
Many celebrities and people of wealth face a hard-learned lesson in that regard. It can be almost impossible to trust people's sincerity, leaving you forced to harden your heart and close the door.
"I have a very small circle of friends, and simply do what makes me happy," Spears said and that's really the only way to navigate the challenges of a life in the public eye.
Another move she made has probably brought her a great deal of peace and tranquility. If you feel inclined to jump on that post and send positive words of encouragement to Spears, you might not want to bother as she probably won't see them.
"It breaks my heart to see the comments on my posts sometimes .... so I simply choose not to look anymore," Spears wrote. "Let the clever haters do what they do best .... hate!"
And just like that, Spears ha found the key to taking all of their power away. Of course, she could also just disable comments as many of her peers have done. But in some ways, this is an even better way to get under their skin. They can write all their nasty comments and then get frustrated that she won't get torn down by them or even acknowledge their trolling at all.
One of the best ways to beat a bully is to walk away from them and show them they have no power over you. Even disabling comments is giving them a win, though sometimes a necessary one for the sake of your mental health.
Hopefully, her boyfriend Sam Asghari let her know that he had he back, as she may not see his comment either. "Winners don’t hate or bully," he wrote. "Losers (haters) only do because they don’t have what you have (which is the best heart in the world) ♥️"
Plenty of Spears' fans have also chimed in with words of encouragement and support, proving that not all commenters on the internet are bad. Unfortunately, it only takes a few nasty people to spoil it for everyone else. And they're always more than happy to do just that.
For now, it looks like Britney is choosing to stay above the fray and focus on her happiness. And be wary of fakers.
