Set between the years of "Return of the Jedi" and "The Force Awakens," the new series stars Pascal as the bounty hunter and gunslinger from the planet Mandalore.
Move over Boba Fett, there's a new bounty hunter in town.
During the D23 expo Friday evening, Disney dropped the epic trailer for the first live-action "Star Wars" television series, "The Mandalorian," which stars Pedro Pascal as the show's titular character.
"After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe," the show's description reads. "'The Mandalorian' is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."
Set between the years of "Return of the Jedi" and "The Force Awakens," the new series stars Pascal as the bounty hunter and gunslinger from the planet Mandalore. Its inhabitants, the Mandalorians, are a warrior people in "Star Wars" canon. The Mandalorian armor is most famously worn by Boba Fett, and his father Jango Fett.
Carl Weathers, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog and Nick Nolte also star in the series.
"The Mandalorian," comes from creative duo Jon Favreau and "Star Wars Rebels" showrunner Dave Filoni, who are already working on Season 2.
Favreau is an executive producer and writer on the project. Along with Filoni, Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow and Rick Famuyiwa have also directed episodes.

View StoryAlthough both the Mandalorian and the assassin droid IG-11 who appear in the trailer bear very close resemblances to two other "Star Wars" favorites, they are not in fact Boba Fett and IG-88.
While these two appeared together on the bridge of the Darth Vader's Executor in 1980's "The Empire Strikes Back", in Star Wars canon the bounty hunters were fierce rivals.
However, while Fett appeared to have met is demise in the belly of the Sarlacc in 1983's "Return Of The Jedi", canon also decrees he eventually escaped... meaning a surprise twist could reveal Fett and the Mandalorian to be one and the same.
Whoever the Mandalorian is, he seems to prefer transporting his bounties frozen in carbonite... just like his similarly-armored predecessor.
