"Today we remember. We remember the victims, their families, and the heroes," Schwarzenegger tweeted. "We remember the way the country came together and stood as one."
18 years later and Hollywood will #NeverForget the events of September 11, 2001.
On Wednesday, the hashtag quickly became the top trend on both Twitter and Instagram, where celebrities and notable figures including Halle Berry, Barack Obama and Arnold Schwarzenegger were among the many paying tribute to the nearly 3,000 people who died during the terrorist attack. Others also gave praise to the first responders on that day.

"New York -- you are ever-changing, all-embracing and un-breakable," she captioned the pic. "Today on 9/11, we honor the thousands who perished, the heroes who risked their lives and the city that remains resilient to this day. #NeverForget"
Schwarzenegger took to Twitter to recall his experience visiting the first responders in New York a month after the attacks. The "Terminator: Dark Fate" star posted a heartfelt thread that received much love and support from fans.
"Today we remember. We remember the victims, their families, and the heroes," the actor began. "We remember the way the country came together and stood as one. I will always remember visiting the first responders in New York less than a month later."
Schwarzenegger expressed that while he was there to lift spirits, it was the first responders who ended up inspiring him.
"They were exhausted and they were in mourning, but they just kept going because they were serving a cause bigger than themselves," he tweeted. "At Ground Zero, I saw them working through tears and hugged more heroes than I could count. At the three firehouses I visited, they just wanted me to work out and eat with them."

"Let me tell you: firefighters can cook," Schwarzenegger tweeted. "I ate one meal after another because I didn't want to be rude, and when you have a chance to eat with your heroes, you never say no. I left that day with a stomach so full I was about to pop. But I also left with a full heart, because I saw the best of America."
He concluded, "We must continue to honor the victims, we must hold up and thank the police, paramedics and firefighters for their heroism, and we must never forget. Never."
Former President Obama -- who shared a link to a news story about volunteers doing a day of service on Ellis Island -- also participated in the day of national remembrance.
"As we remember those we lost on 9/11, we also remember the spirit of unity and togetherness that defined the weeks and months after," he tweeted. "On this day of service, I'm reflecting on all those still working to embrace that spirit, today and every day."

Today marked the 18th anniversary of attacks, where two hijacked planes struck the World Trade Center's North and South Towers in New York City, while a third plane crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia. A fourth was headed toward the White House in Washington, D.C., but crashed in a field in Pennsylvania's Stonycreek Township after passengers on Flight 93 heroically stood up to the terrorists.
