"I wish I would have done things different with her," Lamar said of his relationship with Taraji. "She was a little older than me, but I learned a lot from her because that was the most significant relationship as a grown-up that I had with a black woman."
But the confession clashes with the reason he gave for the split in his memoir "Darkness To Light" released back in May, where he said the pair broke up after he wouldn't go to China with Taraji while she filmed "Karate Kid," worrying that he wouldn't be able to feed his cocaine addiction while overseas.
"I don't think I ever connected with another black woman as deeply as I did with Taraji. And to be honest, because of that fact, it hurt that much more when we broke up soon after I decided not to travel with her," Lamar wrote.
"Our last phone call was brief. I assured her we'd pick up right where we left off when she returned, but I could sense deep down that she knew it was over. I was deflated when we hung up because I knew I was letting a good woman get away. It was the last time I ever spoke to her," he added.
TooFab has reached out for comment from Lamar about the discrepancy.
Lamar and Taraji met at a Hollywood party in 2008 and hit it off immediately, he detailed in the book.
"She was just such a wise woman that she could see right through whatever smooth act I was trying to put on," he recalled. "She refused to be just another conquest, and truthfully, I didn't want her to be," he wrote.
