Ghostbusters Stars -- Then & Now

Unlike the 2016 film, this takes place in the same universe as the two '80s movies.

They ain't afraid of no ghosts.

The first trailer for "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" dropped on Monday morning, giving fans of the franchise a glimpse into how the new movie will connect to the first two films.

Set in the same universe as the 1984 original and its 1989 sequel, this installment focuses on mom Callie (Carrie Coon) and her two kids ("Stranger Things" star Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace) as they discover their connection to the Ghostbusters after inheriting property from her father in Oklahoma. After moving there, weird things start happening -- and they find a ghost trap, proton pack and PKE meter in the house and the Ecto-1 in the garage.

While Callie didn't really know her dad, the trailer's big reveal confirms they're descendants of Egon Spengler -- and ends with the kids taking a joyride in the Ecto-1, trying to trap a spirit.

According to director Jason Reitman -- son of Ivan Reitman, director of the first two films -- this one will revolve around a new adventure "that connects back to the Manhattan Crossrip" on 1984.

The film also stars Paul Rudd as a school teacher who remembers that New York incident all too well. While they don't appear in the trailer, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts are all expected to make cameos in the movie as well.

"Ghostbusters: Afterlife" hits theaters July 10, 2020.
