OG Charmed Star Calls for Ceasefire In Reboot Feud; Shannen Doherty Also Chimes In

After all the back and forth drama between reboot star Sarah Jeffery and the "Charmed" OGs, Holly Marie Combs is asking for a ceasefire.

"My Charmed friends ... I would like everyone to stop. Truth be told and it will be told is that our issues were and are at the corporate level," she tweeted. "And we have the receipts. Just as the new cast were asked to be people they were not we were given ultimatums that were crazily unfair."

"And I will say to the ladies of the reboot... stick together... negotiate together and know that the discourse between us, you guys and crews being discarded and replaced is what  they bank on," she added. "Division. That is all. Blessed be."

"And for the last time I will say it's not about any 1 person taking a job to support their families or themselves," she continued. "It's about an industry that sees us only as numbers whether it be follower #'s or $ signs. Cuz in the end and actually in the beginning that's all we were/are. Cool."

Not all of the OG "Charmed" stars are having quite as much of a problem with the new reboot, nor interested in snipping at its stars.

On the heels of Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs publicly snapping back at new "Charmed" star Sarah Jeffery's defense of her show, Shanne Doherty waded into the fray to back the newcomer and the reboot.

"What’s old is new… and I think it's wonderful a new generation can connect with three strong, powerful women, not to mention the many jobs the show provides," Doherty told Entertainment Weekly Thursday night.

This is nothing new for Doherty, who was a big supporter of the new show from the moment it was announced, as noted by EW. "I'm intrigued by the idea that a new generation might be comforted, inspired like you all were. Charmed helped us all in some way," she wrote then.

Doherty has even gone so far as to show up on set to share her support for the new show, which is heading into its third season, as seen in a recent tweet by Jeffery.

After Holly described it as "bullshit", Rose McGowan took her turn to respond to Jeffery's charges.

In an Instagram Story posted Wednesday night, the actress denied anything she said was about race, calling that particular accusation "quite a stretch"; she insisted her beef lay with the creators for cashing in on a lazy reboot.

She claimed execs were profiting off of her and her fellow original cast members' hard work — and by extension, so was Jeffery.

While she described the original as the sun and the reboot as "in the shadow" — the real shade lay in her opening line.

"Dear Sarah Jeffery, I honestly had no idea who you were til you tweeted," she wrote.

"I have been too busy fighting monsters & fighting for a massive Cultural Reset to notice who's in the reboot. Absolutely nothing to do with race, that's quite a stretch you took. I'm beyond glad any WOC has a well paying job. Hell yes to that. I'm sure you are a great actress."

"My quibble (google it) is about execs & producers & @wb network trading on years of my work & name in such a cynical and obvious way - a money grab to cash in on the Charmed name. I do not care that they remade it, I have far bigger things I'm dealing with. I do not nor will I watch a show I disagree with on principle."

"This is not my ego trashing the reboot, this is a criticism of creators (those are the ones who should be embarrassed) with little to no imagination making bank off of years of us busting our ass to create a legacy that you are actually profiting off of as well."

"I care that the original fans weren't listened to. I care that Hollywood won't stop making remakes that don't need to be remade. It's a formula that's gone on for too long. Mediocrity rules there, not just sociopaths. There's no soul or heart in something made purely for profit whilst refusing to elevate and innovate. Reboots will always be in the shadow, the originals will always be the sun."

She signed off: "I wish you well. Best, Rose."

It's new "Charmed" vs old "Charmed" on Twitter.

Sarah Jeffery attacked her predecessors on Monday night after watching a video of the OG stars Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs apparently trashing the reboot.

The 24-year-old shared a clip of the two actresses, who played half-sisters Paige and Piper in the original show, laughing in solidarity with fans who search Netflix looking for their show — which was pulled from the streamer — and only finding the newer version in its place.

"But it sucks," McGowan says in the clip, before admitting: "I haven't seen it I can't say that. I've never seen it."

"I said it sucks!" she reiterated to a laughing Combs, adding: "But I'm happy that people have jobs. But it can still suck."

The clip was posted by a Twitter fan who wrote: "It really doesn't sit right with me that white women from the OG charmed consistently put down a new #Charmed with a POC cast.. you hate to see it"... and Jeffery certainly agreed.

"You know, I saw this earlier and I refrained from saying anything. I thought, better to just let them shout into the abyss," she wrote, sharing the clip. "But I do want to say, I find it sad and quite frankly pathetic to see grown women behaving this way."

"I truly hope they find happiness elsewhere, and not in the form of putting down other WOC [women of color]. I would be embarrassed to behave this way. Peace and love to y'all."

But on Tuesday morning, Combs fired right back with a barbed tweet of her own; while she didn't name her successor by name, there was no doubting whom she was accusing of stirring the pot for "personal gain".

"That's some bullshit. And a lot of it. Clearly," she tweeted.

"People speaking, excuse me typing, derogatory accusations of a person's character despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary because of a difference in opinions about a tv show is just plain wrong. And also personal gain honey."

In the new show, Canada-born Jeffery plays plays Maggie Vera, one of three Latinx sisters, while she herself is of African American, Indigenous Canadian and English descent.

While Twitter followers disagreed on whether or not the actresses were justified in criticizing the new show, there was just as much debate over Jeffery bringing the issue of representation into the discussion.

The original "Charmed," which also starred Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano, ran for 8 seasons from 1998 to 2006.
