Sometimes it’s hard to resist the urge to type your name into the Google search bar to find out what’s there — especially when you’re a celebrity! While the average person may only have a few results pop up, it’s completely different for famous folks who constantly have thousands of people talking about them online. Even though the results may not always be nice, some celebs admit they can’t help themselves when it comes to finding out what others are saying about them. And after Googling their names, they either learned to laugh at the negative comments or to never do it again! Scroll on to find out what happened when these stars searched their names...

Robert Pattinson
Robert Pattinson says that he once found himself in a deep dive into Google while on a flight from New York to France. Before takeoff, he learned there was a rumor that he was going to be cast as the next Batman — but he hadn’t even auditioned at that point. He was so worried that the studio would decide not to cast him because of the rumors that he spent hours Googling himself to make sure they hadn’t changed their mind about giving him an audition. “I was sitting next to Christopher McQuarrie. I’d never met him before. Oh, God! He’d seen me Googling myself for the past hour!” Robert told Variety.

Sandra Bullock
Sandra Bullock says she has Googled herself in the past but was so turned off by what she saw that she knew she couldn't do it again. She explained that she came across articles that pointed out obvious things, like her age, but also people commenting on her acting abilities and attractiveness. “So, I Googled myself and read the comments section, thinking I could get some tidbits of what people really think of me. No human being should ever read the comments sections or ever Google one’s self at any time,” Sandra said at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Anderson Cooper
Anderson Cooper admits that he does Google himself at times but has definitely cut back from what he used to do. Even when he’s tempted, Anderson says he tries to stop himself. “Yes, of course. Nobody who says they don't Google themselves, everybody Googles themselves from time to time. But I will say I have drastically cut it down over the last couple years — and rarely ever now do it. And if I do it, I'm like, ‘Don't do it.’ I have to talk myself down sometimes. I'm like, ‘Don't do it.’ I have like A-N-D-E in there and I'm like, ‘Don't do it.’ And I'm like, R-S-O-N. And then I'm like, ‘No, I'm not gonna do it,’” Anderson said during an interview at Google.

Kat Dennings
Kat Dennings may have told her family that they aren’t allowed to Google her name, but that hasn’t stopped her from doing it on occasion. She says that sometimes she will put her name in the search bar with the word “is” next to it to see what comes up. “One of the most fun games is to search a name and put the word ‘is’ after it, and see what comes up. I don’t [often] Google myself; it’s a poisonous thing to do. But I consider it a triumph [if I do] and it doesn’t say, ‘Kat Dennings is fat.’ I’m like, ‘This is so great!’” Kat told Parade.

Blake Lively
Blake Lively has definitely Googled herself before and while she didn’t reveal what she saw, she explained that she hated it so much that she has to stop herself from doing anymore. “I have [Googled myself] before and it’s just ended in full depression. So I think it’s a good rule of thumb not to Google yourself because the Internet is not nice,” Blake told Variety.

Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway was invested in Googling herself pretty often until she figured out how bad it was for her mental health. She reached her breaking point when she discovered an article titled “Why Does Everyone Hate Anne Hathaway?” and found herself listening to the negative things people had to say. “I listened at first. I couldn’t help it. You know and you try to shut it off and I couldn’t and then I realized why I couldn’t was I hadn’t learned to love myself yet. I hadn’t gotten there. And if you don’t love yourself when someone else says horrible thing to you part of you is always going to believe them,” Anne said on “The Ellen Show.”

Selena Gomez
While Selena Gomez says she used to Google herself to look back on her past outfit choices, she now no longer looks up her name to protect her mental health. Selena noted that she also refrains from reading comments and scrolling through social media. “Oh, God! I haven't done that in years. I honestly can't. I'm strong in a lot of ways, but I think I just have way too much of a sensitive heart,” Selena told Allure.

Emma Stone
Emma Stone once admitted that she definitely Googles herself, even if she doesn’t like the results. She noted that occasionally she’ll find something pretty funny and gets a kick out of publications that call her “Bland Basic Bitch.” Emma says that she likes the nickname so much, that she even refers to herself like that sometimes. “I don’t usually like what I find. But some of it is really funny,” Emma told Vogue.

Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon reserves her Googling for very low moments in her life as a way of coping with her negative emotions. Thankfully, she says she’s too busy to Google herself most of the time! "Only in very, very dark moments — moments of pure self-loathing — do I type my name into Google. I know what I'm in for. You never read anything positive...You're fat, you're ugly, you're tired, you're worthless, you don't have a career anymore, you're a bad actor. It's just an affirmation of every horrible feeling you have about yourself,” Reese told “Today.”

Robert Downey Jr
Robert Downey Jr. has no problem admitting that he searches himself online — and totally loves it. While many stars find comments that can be hurtful, Robert says he tends to look for the positive and gets a good laugh out of everything else. “Oh, I love all that s**t, personally. Sorry. I just love it. Because it’s a hoot. Some people overstate their support, like they know you. Other people are busy doing something else and just want to go on this chat site and say some despicable character assassination, which I honestly think they kind of nailed it. I do have that shortcoming. It’s really fun,” Robert told Newsweek.
