Roy Scheider (Chief Brody): Roy would reprise his role in "Jaws 2" and later starred in "All That Jazz," "Blue Thunder" and on "SeaQuest DSV." He died in 2008 from complications of a staph infection. He was 75.

Richard Dreyfuss (Matt Hooper): He would later star in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," "Mr. Holland's Opus" and won an Oscar for "The Goodbye Girl." He has 3 kids with ex-wife Jeramie Rain and married Svetlana Erokhin in 2006. He also played Bernie Madoff in a TV miniseries, appeared on "Weeds" and, most recently, starred in "Into the Deep."

Robert Shaw (Quint): He'd later star in "The Man in the Glass Booth,""The Deep" and "Avalanche Express." He married 3 times, had 8 children and adopted 2. He married his third wife Virginia in 1976 and died of a heart attack in 1978. He was 51.

Lorraine Gary (Ellen Brody): She reprised her role in "Jaws 2" and came out of retirement for "Jaws: The Revenge," the latter of which scored her a Razzie nom. She also starred in "Car Wash" and "1941." She was married to Universal Pictures president Sidney Sheinberg until his death in 2019. Their children are both producers.

Susan Backlinie (Chrissie Watkins): After playing the shark's first victim, Susan spoofed her death in "1941" and appeared in "Day of the Animals," "Grizzly" and "The Great Muppet Caper." She died May 11, 2024 at the age of 71, from a heart attack.

Murray Hamilton (Mayor Larry Vaughn): He'd appear in "Jaws 2," "The Drowning Pool," "The Amityville Horror," "1941" and "B.J. and the Bear." Murray died of cancer in 1986. He was 63.

Jeffrey Voorhees (Alex Kintner): After being one of the youngest victims in the first film, Voorhees later appeared on "Santa Barbara." He later managed a restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard, where the movie filmed, and reportedly had a sandwich called The Alex Kintner Burger on the menu. He has since retired and still lives in Martha’s Vineyard.

Lee Fierro (Mrs. Kintner): Fierro made a cameo in Jaws: The Revenge and continued to run the Island Theatre Workshop in Martha’s Vineyard from 1974-2017, before she reportedly moved to Ohio to be closer to family. She died from Covid in April 2020, at the age of 91.

Chris Rebello (Michael Brody): After playing Sheriff Brody’s son in the first film, Rebello appeared in no other films. He continued to live in Martha’s Vineyard and was an assistant coach for the island’s high school varsity football team. He died in 2011 at the age of 37 from a heart attack and is survived by wife Lynn and son James.

Jonathan Searle (Cardboard Fin Kid): Searle was hired as an extra in the film, playing one of the two kids who wore a fake fin to scare the locals. In 2022, he was sworn in as an Oak Bluffs Police Chief, with the Massachusetts State Police saying at the time, “it was indeed destined that a local island boy who played a memorable part in the cultural phenomenon that was 'Jaws' should himself grow up to be a police chief on the very same island.”

Jay Mello (Sean Brody): After playing the youngest Brody boy in the original film, Mello also never acted again. Speaking with PEOPLE, Mello said he “didn’t go back into the water for like two years after the movie was made,” adding he was “very disappointed” his character was killed off in a shark attack in “Jaws: The Revenge.” He works at a maple syrup company in Vermont.
