Kody Brown's family became a TLC hit with the show Sister Wives. The reality series, which debuted in September 2010, documented Brown's polygamist relationships with four women: Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn. Meri Brown was Kody Brown’s first wife. The duo met through Kody’s sister in October 1989, and they were engaged two months later. They legally married in 1990 and knew since the beginning that they wanted to practice polygamy. They welcomed their one and only child, Leon, in July 1995; Leon came out as transgender in 2022. Meri remained legally married to Kody until 2014, when he divorced her so he could legally marry Robyn Brown and adopt her children from a previous marriage. Meri remained spiritually married to Kody Brown until they separated in January 2023, though fell victim to a catfishing scandal 2015, and entertained a relationship with someone she thought was a man but turned out to be a woman. In 2022, Meri began feeling distant from Kody, who, toward the end of their marriage, expressed not having a desire to fix it or save it. Meri now lives in her mother’s bed and breakfast and is fixing the property. She publicly dated Amos Andrews for one month before they split.

Janelle Brown was Kody Brown’s second wife. They first met while Kody was dating Meri, and she spiritually married him in 1993. They remained together until December 2022. The sister wife was in a previous marriage before Kody, but they split over disagreements about family and religion. While together, Janelle and Kody welcomed six children: Logan in May 1994, Madison in November 1995, Hunter in February 1997, Garrison in April 1998, Gabriel in October 2021, and Savannah in December 2004. Garrison tragically passed away in March 2024 after taking his own life. The former couple released a statement sharing their grief but have otherwise not been on good terms. Problems began in their relationship during the COVID-19 Pandemic and disagreements over regulations that caused Janelle to live in a RV for a short period of time. Tensions also rose due to Christine’s departure from the group, which caused Kody to start enforcing values of the patriarchy. Janelle and Kody’s kids have spoken over the years about conflict with their father. Madison claimed in the Authentic Society Podcast that he does not respect boundaries, and Gabriel has butt heads with his father over both the Coronavirus and forgetting his birthday. Janelle now lives in North Carolina but travels to Arizona to visit family.

Christine Brown was Kody Brown’s third wife. She first met Kody and Meri in 1990 and they were friends for over four years before becoming spiritually married in 1994. Christine was the first sister wife to leave Kody, announcing their split in 2021. While married, they welcomed six kids together. Their eldest, Aspyn was born in 1995 – one year after they tied the knot. She was followed by Mykelti (June 1996), Paedon (August 1998), Gwendlyn (October 2001), Ysabel (March 2003) and Truely (April 2010). Christine decided to separate from Kody because she felt like her voice and opinion was not valued in their family. Two years after her and Kody’s split, she started dating David Wooley. They married in October 2023 and are still together, living in Utah.

Robyn is Kody Brown’s fourth wife, and she is the only one who is still married to him. Before Kody, Robyn was married to David Jessop before divorcing him in 2007. During her first marriage, she welcomed three children: Dayton in January 2000, Aurora in June 2002, and Breanna in October 2005. Robyn spiritually married Kody in 2010, and they welcomed their first child in October 2011. Kody legally married Robyn in 2014 after divorcing his first wife Meri, so he could legally adopt Dayton, Aurora and Breanna. Almost two years later, the couple welcomed their second child together, Ariella, in 2016. The couple still live in Arizona, and Kody Brown revealed on Fox’s Special Forces that he no longer plans to practice polygamy.
