Athletes traditionally do very well on "Dancing with the Stars," so who's the strongest competitor going into this contest full of sports stars? Before we spend the next four weeks critiquing their performances, we take a look at why they may or may not be built to dominate the ballroom.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (71) - At 71 years old and 7’2” in height, Abdul-Jabbar is going to struggle with many aspects of the competition. Partnering with an average-sized woman is going to be extremely difficult at his height and challenging lift tricks will be almost impossible due to both height and age. Abdul-Jabbar is charismatic and likeable, but there’s no way he’s going to have the grace in movement or command in the choreography to win this competition. (Odds: 40-1)
Johnny Damon (44) - As a retired MLB player, and two-time World Series champion, Damon won’t have any trouble with the pressures of competition. He should have no problems with the strength required, either, but it’s the grace and flexibility and stamina that could get him. Baseball players tend to be some of the stiffer players when it comes to dance, and particularly in their footwork as the sport doesn’t demand as much attention be paid there. (Odds: 20-1)
Chris Mazdzer (29) - A silver medalist at the Olymics in the luge, Mazdzer will be tapping into a whole different skill set to try and compete on the dance floor. Where he’s used to subtle movements and adjustments in a fast-paced environment, “DWTS” will demand he make big sweeping movements as part of complex choreographed routines. Standing tall and being big in carriage and presentation might prove challenging as well. (Odds: 15-1)
