It's hard to believe that Bella Thorne hasn't always been confident, but the actress admits that she had to learn to embrace her flaws.
"I'm not afraid to be myself, but I did not always feel that way," she tells toofab. "When I first started out acting I tried so hard to please everyone around me. Everyone wanted me to be something different. With the support of my family and friends, they helped me realize that being me is all I could be. They taught me to love myself—a gift that I will always be thankful for."
The young star, who is celebrating her 18th birthday today, is taking what she's learned and lending her voice to a good cause.
"As I embark on turning 18, I want to give others the same gift by raising money for the Boys and Girls Club's program SMART Girls," she shared. "The program focuses on health, fitness and self-esteem for girls ages 8 to 17 and teaches self-worth and loving yourself. Every penny raised will go to the SMART Girls program. I have everything I could ever need so please help me celebrate turning 18 by helping others."
The best part? As part of the campaign, Bella chose two top students from the Boys and Girls club to give Six Flags Magic Mountain tickets for a day of fun!
