Dwayne Johnson thinks it's "amazing" that people would actually seriously consider him as a candidate to be the next president of the United States.
The "Baywatch" star addressed the talk of his potential political ambition on "The Tonight Show" Thursday when Jimmy Fallon asked about it in wake of the movie star's GQ interview, in which he said a run for the Oval Office could be "a real possibility."
“The surge and the groundswell since then has really been amazing,” he said in the interview (above), citing a national poll “that brought together Republicans and Democrats saying that I would beat Donald Trump if we had an election today to become president.”
Rock Teases Presidential Run And Reveals Why He Turned Down Clinton and Trump
View StoryBut the question remains: Is The Rock actually going to run for president?
“Three-and-a-half years is a long ways away, so we'll see,” Johnson said with a smile.
And the Jimmy on the other side of the country, Kimmel, joked that “an actual rock might beat Donald Trump at this point.”
But Fallon, who was heavily criticized for an interview with Trump during the 2016 election, was curious as to why the actor believes so many people are rallying behind him.
“I think it's because, you know, a lot of people want to see a different leadership today – I'm sorry, not a different, but a better leadership today," The Rock said. "More poise, less noise. And I also think that over the years I've become a guy that a lot of people relate to. I get up early in the morning at a ridiculous house, I go to work, and spend time with the troops, I take care of my family, I love taking care of people, and I think that kind of thing really resonates with people, especially today."
But the actor appeared on NBC's flagship late-night show to campaign for a different cause: "Baywatch." He promised fans of the "most successful TV series, ever" that there will be David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson cameos, plus lots of hard-R comedy. He even brought a new clip, which you can watch below.
