"Call Me By Your Name" just hit theaters in New York and Los Angeles this weekend, but director Luca Guadagnino is already thinking sequel.
The film tells the story about a sensual first love between an inexperienced 17-year-old named Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet) and his father's graduate student, Oliver (Armie Hammer), who studies and lives with the family for the summer in Italy. While the movie has a heartbreaking ending, Guadagnino expressed interest in revisiting the lives of the two young men.
The director previously told Vulture he hopes to make 4 more movies and elaborated on the idea when TooFab caught up with him at the film's AFI Fest screening in Los Angeles, saying the characters "have much more to show."

"I have that feeling that all these characters Elio, Oliver, Mr. Perlman, Mrs. Perlman, Marzia, they have much more to show of themselves. I don't know, I think we definitely want to see how they change in time. Maybe this is first love. This is the ideal about first love. Maybe in the future we want to see not the ideal, but maybe the resolution in life, the loss."
Though the movie ends with Elio sobbing into the fireplace after learning Oliver is marrying a woman, the book sees them meeting up again two more times in the future, once with a 30-something Elio visiting his former lover in the US and again with Olivier visiting him in Italy five years later. It's worth noting these two additional epilogues contain no other main characters.
"We'll see," Guadagnino added in closing.
