18 years ago today, one of the very best "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" episodes made its big debut. Yep, we're talking about "Hush."
Widely regarded as the creepiest Monster of the Week episode in the show's 7-season run on both The WB and UPN, "Hush" revolved around a group of demons called The Gentlemen who stole the voices of everyone in Sunnydale. Without a way to scream for help, their victims would then have their hearts cut out of their chest.
How Spike Was Originally Supposed to Die on 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'
View StoryOne of the men behind the Gentlemen's horrific grins: Doug Jones (not that one), star of "Hellboy," "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" and Guillermo del Toro's new award season darling, "The Shape of Water." Speaking with TooFab, Jones revealed what show star Sarah Michelle Gellar thought of his absolutely freaky performance.
"It was very much established that she was number one on the call sheet, and the crew was very protective of her," he said of appearing on the Season 4 episode. "But you could tell that the entire crew and Sarah loved us Gentlemen. Loved us. And I guess when it comes to guests on the show, you know, the series regulars don't always connect with all of them and I was told that by a crew member that Sarah doesn't always love every character that comes in, but she loved us."
"It was so great to be a welcome member of the family," he added. "That episode, Joss Whedon wrote and directed himself, so that's when I knew I was getting into something special here."
