It's been nearly 10 years, but the first trailer for "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" is finally here, and it might just open on a heartbreaker.
The musical trailer gazes back to bring us a look at the formative years of Meryl Streep's Donna, but it also left fans wondering: Uh, like, is she dead or something?

View StoryAs Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) prepares for the birth of her child, she is greeted by her mother Donna's (Streep) bandmates and regaled with stories of their wild youth, but Streep is hardly seen and never heard in modern-day sequences. Luckily for Sophie and fans of the original, it looks like everyone else is back for sure.
Joining Seyfried and Streep (even if if her character is dead) in returning are Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Dominic Cooper, Stellan Skarsgard, Christine Baranski, and Julie Walters. As if that wasn't enough star power, the trailer dropped its biggest name last, with the dramatic arrival of Cher as Sophie's grandmother.

View StoryThroughout the present-day sequences, the cast kept referring to Donna in the past tense, and Streep had no speaking lines, rather serving as visual placeholders to set up flashbacks or standing opposite her daughter in what could be a dream sequence.
Maybe we'll find out the answer to this mystery when the next trailer drops, but we'll definitely find out when "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" hits theaters on July 20, 2018, just in time for the original's 10-year anniversary.
