We're never quite sure what Groot says in the Marvel movies unless another character is there to translate, but that wasn't the case when the teenage plant being crumbled into dust at the end of "Avengers: Infinity War."
"I am Groot," were the beloved character's final words as he "died" (in quotes because we know he'll be back and we've got some theories as to how) in front of longtime pal Rocket Raccoon, who was too heartbroken to translate. But another expert has stepped in to fill the void, and revealed a deeper understanding of the characters' relationship in the process.

“Dad”
Groot's "death" was among the many casualties after Thanos (Josh Brolin) retrieved all of the Infinity Stones and took out 50 percent of the universe's population with a simple snap of his fingers. Star-Lord, Falcon, Winter Solider and Spider-Man (still not over that one, either) were among the superhero casualties, and it will be a whole year until we see how the survivors are going to strike back.
Marvel fans were shook by Gunn's insight.
