Penny Marshall, an accomplished actress, comedian and filmmaker, has died at 75.
TMZ reported Tuesday morning that the groundbreaking female director behind hits "Big" and "A League of Their Own" passed away at her Hollywood Hills home on Monday due to complications from diabetes.

View StoryShe became a star in Hollywood as one half of sitcom duo "Laverne and Shirley" -- a "Happy Days" spinoff which earned her three Golden Globe nominations -- before directing Tom Hanks in "Big," which was the first movie directed by a woman to gross more than $100 million at the box office. She also directed Robert De Niro and Robin Williams in Best Picture Oscar nominee "Awakenings," Drew Barrymore in "Riding in Cars with Boys" and Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington in "The Preacher's Wife."
Penny is one of three Marshall siblings who have had huge careers in entertainment. Her older sister, Ronny Hallin, produced some of your favorite '90s sitcoms, including "Family Matters," while her older brother, Garry Marshall, directed "Pretty Woman" in addition to a bunch of other memorable movies.
Most recently, Penny acted in a 2016 episode of CBS' "The Odd Couple" reboot starring Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon.
Tributes are already pouring in as news of her death rapidly spreads across Twitter and other social media platforms.
"Daredevil" and "Law & Order" star Vincent D'Onofrio remembered her as "smart and funny" when they met to discuss a movie she was working on, while new late-night star Busy Philipps and Rosie O'Donnell both tweeted they were heartbroken to hear the news.
"The Simpsons" producer Al Jean took to Twitter to remind people that Penny was the animated show's first-ever celebrity guest star. She voiced a deranged babysitter in a memorable Season 1 episode titled "Some Enchanted Evening," in which Bart and Lisa fight back against a criminal their parents accidentally hired to babysit them.
