"It's got cocaine, hot chicks, sports cars, bombed-out buildings, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, FBI agents, and hard-core drug dealers."
Alec Baldwin dons a wacky wig to play a powerful and wealthy American business tycoon who marries a model and comes under investigation by the FBI. You guessed it — it's John DeLorean.
The first trailer for the bizarre hybrid film/documentary "Framing John DeLorean" dropped on Wednesday, in which the SNL star both plays himself, and the legendary car designer.
The most surprising thing about this project is it has taken until 2019 for this to happen; indeed the trailer opens with an interviewer incredulously asking DeLorean real life son Zachary: "Are you surprised a feature film hasn't been made about your dad and his life?"
He simply replies "Yep."
"It's got cocaine, hot chicks, sports cars, bombed-out buildings, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, FBI agents, and hard-core drug dealers," the clip boasts. "Introducing the first feature film / documentary / making of / re-enactment / true story of the man behind the DeLorean."
John DeLorean was famed for a number of reasons: Being the youngest ever division head at General Motors at 40; spearheading the Pontiac GTO muscle car and the Pontiac Firebird, breaking off to launch his own car company, and creating the "Back To The Future" car that also carries his name.
He is also infamous for as many things, including the bankruptcy of the same company, being arrested for — and later acquitted because he was illegally entrapped into — a cocaine smuggling operation.
"A number of people have been wanting to do a movie of my life," the real John says in archive footage in the trailer.

View Story"John DeLorean was the leading man Hollywood producers dream of," one interviewee concurs, "...and he was real."
The film takes the unusual approach of being both a traditional biopic — with Baldwin playing the lead — as well as a documentary, using actual footage of the entrepreneur, with commentary from Baldwin himself.
"Genius / Failure / Savior / Liar / Legend / Fraud / Visionary / Criminal," the trailer brands him to Ravel's Bolero, as it tracks his spectacular professional ups and downs, alongside his personal life; his wife Cristina Ferrare is played by "Deadpool" star Morena Baccarin.
As a TV news report concludes: "He was either a beleaguered man... or he was the greatest conman to ever come down the pike."
"Framing John DeLorean" will have its world premiere at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival between April 24 and May 5 in New York City; it will later be released in theaters and on VOD on June 7.
