Here are all the best, worst and most memorable red (*purple) carpet looks from the 2019 Emmy Awards.
The stars brought out their A-game for television's biggest night, and we were far from disappointed!
The 71st Annual Emmy Awards red carpet, which was actually purple this year, took place Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, with Padma Lakshmi, Dascha Polanco, Bethenny Frankel and Sterling K. Brown among the first to make their debuts.
There seemed to be one of two paths the stars chose to take this year: sleek and simple (like the long, cream-colored gown Lakshmi was wearing) or avant-garde (as seen on Polanco). As always, we saw a plethora of timeless black gowns, like the one the "Real Housewives of New York" alum chose to wear. And as far as the men are concerned, it was also a sea of black (including Mario Lopez's arm sling) -- except for RuPaul in pink and a few blue suits.
FOX broadcast the award show live on both the West Coast at 5 p.m. and on the East Coast at 8 p.m.
"Game of Thrones"
We must talk about HBO's "Game of Thrones," which is up for a whopping 32 awards for its final season. First of the cast to make their red carpet arrival was Peter Dinklage, who looked dapper in a black suit, hair and beard pleasantly scruffy. His beautiful wife, Erica Schmidt, the perfect accessory. Gwendoline Christie arrived second, giving us second coming vibes.
Maisie Williams arrived in a black, A-line dress with a deep V, partially adorned in crystals. Lena Headey came in a flowy, long-sleeved floral dress with a harsh black bow tied where her deep V stopped. Her hair was up in a soft 'do to perfectly compliment the look. And Sophie Turner, dear God, she looked like she was styled by God herself. Wearing a blush-colored gown with a belt and silver accessories, she levitated -- not walked -- down that purple carpet.
Sleek and Simple
Black and flattering go hand in hand, so it's no wonder the stars often opt to go this route. Along with Bethenny, Chloe Bridges and Aidy Bryant also sported the timeless classic.
Avant-Garde
Polanco wasn't the only one who was wowing in a show-stopping number! "Orange Is the New Black" co-star Laverne Cox was in a two-tone, one-shoulder, ruffled gown. Her hair was in a sleek, low pony, and she was sporting a rainbow clutch. We die. Other avant-garders: Halsey and Ava DuVernay.
Pop of Color
Some of our favorites came in bright, stand-out colors, including Regina King (who opted for a baby blue chiffon gown), "Nailed It" host Nicole Byer (who wore bright yellow) and Jenny McCarthy (who also wore baby blue, except her vibe was more punk rock Cinderella).
Red and Pink
Mandy Moore set the tone for an unexpected color combination when she came wearing a bright pink and deep red off-the-shoulder two-piece dress. Her glam was STUNNING, by the way. Oddly enough, Taraji P. Henson came in the exact same color scheme, as did Marisa Tomei, Susan Kelechi and Zoe Kazan! But we ain't mad.
Metallic
Chrissy Metz, Farrah Abraham and Niecy Nash whipped out their most shimmery ensembles for the evening! Metz rocked a dark chrome, off-the-shoulder dress, while Abraham opted for a cream-colored beaded gown with a keyhole neckline, and Nash's sparkly number appeared silver but picked up on the carpet's purple hues. Natasha Lyonne also came in a shimmery copper wrap dress.
Julie Louis-Dreyfus came in a gold, beaded gown with plunging neckline -- aka she came dressed to snatch an Emmy or two or nine! "Veep" was up for nine awards for its final season, including Outstanding Comedy Series and a lead actress nom for the "Seinfeld" alum.
Relationship Goals
Justin Hartley and his gorgeous wife, Chrishell, came dressed in perfect harmony. The "This Is Us" star wore an electric blue suit, while the "Selling Sunset" star came in a floral, magenta halter dress. Happy last day of summer!
