"Hosting is the only thing we know how to do," Colbert said.
Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert had a lot to say about the Emmys being hostless this year.
While presenting the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy series, the late-night hosts poked fun at the fact that the awards show, which honors the best in television, didn't have an MC for the first time in years.

"It's so stupid," Kimmel said. "You know who has a host? Applebees has a host," Kimmel said.
The guys then pointed out how they are the "real victims" of the hostless Emmys.
"Hosting is the only thing we know how to do," Colbert said.
"I'm sorry, but this show sucks!" Kimmel added.
The men went on to suggest how the other would be a suitable option for a host. While the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" star has hosted the Emmys twice, the "The Late Show" star has hosted once.
"You would have been a great host!" Colbert told Kimmel, who added, "You would have even been better, Stephen!"
"I know, it's just sad," Colbert said.

"Oh, you swam with dolphins, how fascinating," Colbert said sarcastically as Bateman looked on from the audience. "He told that story on your show, too?" Kimmel added.
Kimmel pointed out the Titanic didn't have a host, either. "And look what happened to them!" he said.
"They won an Oscar," Colbert said and Kimmel asked, "But who gave it to them?" When the men realized it was probably a presenter who gave the "Titanic" their award, they concluded that presenters are now in jeopardy.
"That's who they come for next!" Kimmel said and Colbert added, "If we let this slide, they'll start using Alexa to start presenting the nominees."
Alexa then proceeded to present the nominees.
Kimmel and Colbert were both nominated for Outstanding Variety Talk Show, alongside John Oliver, Samantha Bee, Trevor Noah and James Corden.
Earlier on the Emmys red carpet, Colbert crashed Oliver's interview with E! News. The two hosts then proceeded to have a faceoff where they compared Emmys, Peabody Awards and Grammys.
All in good fun of course. Watch the hilarious clip, above.
