"Making fun of a deceased person is so LOW. Glad @FoodNetwork took out the TRASH years ago. Her family must be embarrassed," a person wrote.
Paula Deen is under fire...again.
The cooking show host has received backlash on social media after she made an insensitive joke about Food Network star Carl Ruiz, who unexpectedly passed away on Saturday night at the age of 44.
Post Malone Explains What Gave Him The Chills About Mac Miller's Death
View StoryWhile appearing on "The Big Jay Show" Monday, Deen was asked if she knew who Ruiz was. Ruiz, who was an executive chef at La Cubana in New York, was a close friend of Guy Fieri and made appearances on his Food Network shows "Guy's Grocery Games," "Guy's Ranch Kitchen" and "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."
"No, I'm not [familiar with Ruiz]," Deen said. "But I'm so sorry to hear that."
However, then Deen threw in the tasteless remark.
"You know, they say the restaurant business will kill ya," she said while laughing. "No pun intended."
Listen to the moment for yourself, which happens around 7:10.
People didn't take the comment lightly and railed Deen on Twitter, calling her insensitive and ignorant. Some users even pointed out and alluded to Deen's controversies in the past, like when she admitted to using racial slurs, including the N-Word.
"Is it just me or does #PaulaDeen prove YET AGAIN what a HORRIBLE PERSON SHE REALLY IS," a person wrote. "Making fun of a deceased person is so LOW. Glad @FoodNetwork took out the TRASH years ago. Her family must be embarrassed. The late #CarlRuiz deserves better and so do his family and fans."
"How sad to see Paula Deen once again speak without thinking about Chef Carl Ruiz's untimely death," another person tweeted. "Apparently, she didn't learn her lesson after losing her empire after racial slurs several years ago. Is it insensitivity or just plain ignorance? I'm thinking of the latter."
A user added, "When will you learn to shut your mouth? Or else show some decency. Chef Carl Ruiz was truly loved by many and your tasteless (pun intended) comment shows a lack of class and heart."

@GuyFieri is there a specific reason @Paula_Deen would make this joke about #CarlRuiz on the radio “You know, they say the restaurant business will kill ya,” she said before cackling and adding, “No pun intended.” Glad she is not at @FoodNetwork
@burgundylue
