"I've been through different things in my life and I was so happy to feel strong again and to have some fun," Jolie explained.
Angelina Jolie was more than ready to put her horns back on to reprise her role as Maleficent in "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil."
During the press conference for the Disney sequel Monday, the actress expressed how she was "happy to feel strong again" as the Sleeping Beauty villain. While she joked she was a little taken aback when people told her she was the perfect fit for the dark role ahead of the first film in 2014, certain events in her life prompted her to "fully embrace" the character for the sequel.

"So maybe I just needed to fully embrace it at this time in my life," she added. "You know years ago when we first did it, I was like...She's a bit wild and full-on and a bit much and fun."
"And now, you know, I've been through different things in my life and I was so happy to feel strong again and to have some fun," she added. "And I adore being her and there's something about her that I'm now very proud that I'm associated."
One of the events that occurred between the first and second films, of course, was Jolie's very public separation from Brad Pitt in 2016, with their divorce being finalized just last April. For reference "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil," which also stars Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer was filmed last year.
Jolie and Pitt share kids Zahara, 14, Pax, 15, Shiloh, 13, Knox, 11, Vivienne, 11, and Maddox, 18, who Jolie just recently sent off to college in South Korea.
"Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" hits theaters October 18.
