Liam Payne Drank to Cope with 'Toxic' One Direction Fame

"I went in to say to him: 'It's all good. You don't need to do whatever,'" he continued. "And then we had a really long chat, and he's a really nice kid."

Louis Tomlinson Hit 'Rock Bottom' After Losing Mom and Sister Within Two Years
View StoryAccording to Payne, there is "definitely" competition between him and the other One Direction members as they now all are battling to be successful in their solo careers. Out of all of the boys in the band, Payne said he talks to Tomlinson the most.
"I speak to Louis all the time, Louis is great. He's doing really well," he said.
"We've always had a good connection in the way that we were both trying to manage the band together," Payne said. "And that's followed into life."
Tomlinson lost both his mom and younger sister within a little over two years. His mother Johannah Deakin passed away from leukemia in December 2016. Last March, his 18-year-old sister, Félicité, was found unconscious at her apartment and couldn't be revived. Last month, it was revealed Félicité died of an accidental overdose and had been taking anxiety medication following the death of Johannah.
"Obviously he has been through a hell of a lot," Payne said of Tomlinson. "So I've tried to be there for him as much as possible, and so does he me."
