And the nominees are ...
Tim Allen, Dakota Fanning and Susan Susan Kelechi Watson announced the nominations for the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards Monday morning from the Beverly Hills Hotel.
It was a big win for "Marriage Story," which came out with the most noms on the film side. Released over the weekend on Netflix, the film got noms for Best Motion Picture, Director, Screenplay, Supporting Actress and both Actor and Actress for Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson. Following close behind with five noms each were "The Irishman" and "Once Upon a Time In Hollywood," while "Joker" picked up four of its own.
"Little Women" failed to pick up much traction from the HFPA, with the film only noms for Best Actress and Score. Director Greta Gerwig, who was also snubbed in 2018 for "Lady Bird," was not recognized. Another big shocker was the lack of love for "Us," especially after Lupita Nyong'o won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress over the weekend for playing dual roles in the horror film. Also left off the list entirely, "Uncut Gems," which has been getting raves for Adam Sandler.
A special shoutout does go out to Jennifer Lopez, however, for getting the sole nomination for "Hustlers."
On the TV side, "Chernobyl," "The Crown" and "Unbelievable" tied for the most noms with four each. "Game of Thrones," which wrapped up its final season earlier this year, only nabbed one nomination for Kit Harington, while newcomer "The Morning Show" earned the first noms for Apple+. Both Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon were nominated for that one, along with a show nom for Best Drama.
One glaring omission here is Ava DuVernay's "When They See Us," which earned 11 Emmy nominations earlier this year and an Outstanding Lead Actor win for Jharrel Jerome. Also MIA: "Veep" for its final season, "Schitt's Creek," "Watchmen" and "Euphoria," as well as acting noms for Sandra Oh on "Killing Eve" and Laura Dern on "Big Little Lies."
The 2020 live telecast will be hosted by Ricky Gervais on Sunday, January 5, 2020. This marks his fifth time as MC of the event. See the full list of nominations below!
