Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby, Drake and Taylor Swift are also among those nominated.
The 2021 Billboard Music Awards nominations have been announced.
On Thursday, Access Hollywood's Zuri Hall and comedian LaLa Milan revealed the finalists for the 2021 BBMAs via live stream. The Weeknd -- who was famously snubbed from the 2021 Grammy Awards -- leads the pack, earning a whopping 16 nominations, including Top Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist and Top R&B Album for "After Hours."
2021 Academy Awards: The Most Viral Moments of a Truly Chaotic Night
View StoryFalling close behind The Weeknd are DaBaby with 11 nominations and the late Pop Smoke, who is for up 10 awards. First-time nominee, country singer Gabby Barrett, was the most named female artist, earning nine nominations. Megan Thee Stallion, Bad Bunny, Chris Brown, Drake and late rapper Juice WRLD received seven noms.
Drake -- who's nominated in several categories including Top Artist -- could break his own record for the most wins of all time: 27. However, if Taylor Swift wins all of the four awards in which she is nominated she will tie with Drake's record. She has taken home 23 Billboard Awards throughout her career.
Justin Bieber and Garth Brooks currently hold the number three and four spots for most wins. Bieber has won 21 and Brooks, 20. If Bieber -- who is up for five BBMas this year -- or The Weeknd win all the awards they up for this year, they could surpass Swift for the No. 2. spot.
Oscar Winners Speak Out Against Social Injustice, Call for Action in Powerful Speeches
View StoryMeanwhile, country star Morgan Wallen earned six 2021 Billboard Music Awards nominations -- including Top Country Artist -- however, Dick Clark Productions issued a statement saying that they "will not be including him on the show in any capacity," as the singer's "recent conduct does not align with our core values."
According to Billboard, the 2021 Billboard Awards are "based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay, and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including MRC Data." The eligibility period was March 21, 2020 through April 3, 2021.
The 2021 Billboard Music Awards -- which will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles -- will air at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Sunday, May 23 on NBC. The ceremony will take place just a little over seven months after the 2020 awards show, which was postponed from April to October 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
