Laurieann Gibson knows how to create a star. She's the force behind the successful careers of Lady Gaga, Diddy, Keri Hilson, and Katy Perry -- just to name a few.
The world-renowned choreographer, creative director, and star of her own reality show, “The Dance Scene,” tells TooFab exclusively how she helped launch Lady Gaga's career.
Vincent Herbert, the founder of Streamline Records, signed Lady Gaga in 2007 and knew instantly that Gibson would be the perfect person to help develop Gaga's performance image.
Herbert told Gibson that Gaga was a hard worker and would someday be a star. The choreographer threw everything she had into shaping Gaga's style.
“It was many nights of fighting, pushing, and crying but I just wouldn't give up on what I believed she could do,” said Gibson.
Even though Gaga has become an international sensation, Gibson is less concerned about her fame and is more focused on her future. "I don't really worry about where she is now. I just worry about keeping hergoing. I developed her own style of movement so it is familar to her now. Ialways make it harder and harder and harder."
While every artist has different work ethic and desires, Gibson believes she can ultimately teach anyone to dance, even if they don't have the natural ability.
“Jessica Alba [in the movie "Honey"] was difficult but that was my job,” said Gibson. “That is what I'm supposed to do.”
Becoming a great dancer is not an overnight task, according to Gibson. Rather, its more of a journey.
“I'm a tough coach,” said Gibson. “Sometimes I bite harder than them, but when they finally get that applause and the award, then they come to me and say 'thank you.' ”
After working with such prominent names in the industry Gibson looks forward to collaborating with new artists coming out so she can assist in “birthing them,” like she did with Gaga.
You can see more Gibson on "The Dance Scene," which airs Sundays at 10:30pm PT/ET on E!
