Leighton Meester showed off her singing chops in "Country Strong."
Now another "Gossip Girl" star -- Penn Badgley -- is playing a singer on the big screen.
The 24-year-old actor has been tapped to play the Jeff Buckley in a new biopic entitled "Greetings From Tim Buckley," The Hollywood Reporter reports. It's the first film of the late rocker, who is best know for his cover of the song "Hallelujah." He drowned in 1997.
The film's title comes directly from the name of a tribute concert Jeff performed for his father, Tim. "Greetings From Tim Buckley" was held in April of 1991, and is considered by many to have launched Jeff's career. The film will trace the days leading up to the concert.
"To play a man who was singularly gifted as an artist, greatly misunderstood & mythologized as a human being ... It's something very special and sacred. I'm going to give all I can to this project," Badgley said.
While Badgley's got the acting chops, can he sing? Check out this clip of a younger Penn singing in "Do Over" here and judge for yourself. His voice has definitely deepened since then though!
As for his costar Meester, she recently told "Access Hollywood" that she hopes to release her own album this year.
