Last month, we were fascinated/frightened by the video of Alicia Silverstone feeding her son mouth-to-mouth and the story of January Jones taking pills made from her own placenta.
Well, another celebrity mom has shared her unconventional child rearing technique with the world -- Mayim Bialik.
The 36-year-old former "Blossom" star turned doctor (she has a PhD in Neuroscience) details her "attachment parenting" technique in a new book, "Beyond The Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children The Attachment Parenting Way." Among the techniques expounded: natural births, breast-feeding and sleeping with your children.
NewsOK published a number of excerpts from "Beyond the Sling." In the book, Mayim explains she still breastfeeds her three-and-a-half-year-old son Fred. The actress and her husband, Mike Roosevelt, also co-sleep with their two sons on the floor.
Their one-bedroom home lacks a playroom too. "“Our society's obsession with consumerism, especially in the realm of baby things, baby soaps and baby products ... That's something that my husband and I, partly for frugality and partly for environmental reasons, have really rejected," Mayim explains.
As for potty training, Mayim and Mike follow a gentler approach to traditional methods.
"You're basically training your child to use their pants as a bathroom [diapers] and two years later we have them turn around and do all sorts of complicated manipulations to get them to unlearn," she says.
Whether or not you agree with these unconventional techniques, Mayim is just trying to do her best -- like any other mom. "Most of our life is centered around trying to be the best parents we want to be," she said.
