Lena Dunham has a lot of confidence ... and now we know why!
The "Girls" star graces the October issue of Marie Claire UK where she opens up about the people who have helped shape who she is today: Her parents.
Thanks to the 27-year-old's supportive family unit, she's always had a positive body image and plenty of confidence.
"My parents both have really healthy attitudes about their own bodies but also about the range of things that can be beautiful," she tells the mag.
"But they also just always made me feel pretty and cool and smart," she adds. "Even in the moments when I have known – and still know – that my body wasn't fitting into a traditional Hollywood idea of the female body."
Bravo to the Dunham family -- nothing is better for a young girl than a strong support system. Just look at Lena, she writes and stars on the HBO hit series "Girls" ... and she's still in her 20s!
And now we understand why she's so comfortable showing a little (O.K., a lot) of skin.
"This could very easily be taken out of context, and I think it's funny now, but I remember looking in the mirror as a kid and it would be like for an hour at a time, and I'd be like: 'I'm just so beautiful. Everybody is so lucky that they get to look at me,'" she admits.
Adding, "And of course that changes as you get older, but I may have held on to that little-kid feeling that was me alone in my bathroom."
