After 10 years of marriage, eight children and a hit reality TV show, Jon and Kate Gosselin decided to end their marriage. So, was their time in the reality spotlight worth the turbulent aftermath?
In a recent interview on "Oprah: Where Are They Now," Jon opened up about how "Jon and Kate Plus 8" negatively affected his children -- twins Cara and Mady, 13, and 9-year-old sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah, and Joel.
"I saw my kids not growing up normally, like I grew up, and having community," Jon explained. "Yes, they got to travel the world, and yes, they got these fabulous things, and yes, they have trust funds, and they're taken care of educationally. Great," the 36-year-old continued. "But developmentally, they have problems with their peers, and they have problems with talking to other people, and they have problems with wants and needs and manners and morals and what's right and what's wrong. I think more so than someone who grows up off TV."
Years after the former reality TV dad ended his family's run on TLC and became tangled in a nasty divorce, he is back in the workforce. But he's not a star anymore; now, he's a waiter at the Black Dog, a local restaurant not far from the cabin in the Pennsylvania wilderness where he currently resides.
"It wasn't easy to quit because there's a revenue stream I'm never going to have again," he said, explaining that he needed to find his peace. Now that he seems to have it, Gosselin admitted that there are still some misconceptions about him. "The most common misperception that I cheated on my wife, that I left my family, that I'm a party boy. But my family knows the truth."
