On E!'s "Fashion Police Oscars Edition" on Monday, the 40-year-old host was not feeling the former Disney star's 'do, admitting, "I feel like she smells like patchouli oil. Or weed. Maybe weed?"
The 18-year-old actress, who looked gorgeous at the event in a Vivienne Westwood off-the-shoulder white gown, took to Instagram to comment on Rancic's diss.
"There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful," she wrote. "Someone said something about my hair at the Oscars that left me in awe. Not because I was relishing in rave outfit reviews, but because I was hit with ignorant slurs and pure disrespect."
"To say that an 18-year-old woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or 'weed' is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive," Coleman added. "I don't usually feel the need to respond to negative things but certain remarks cannot go unchecked."
Zendaya went on to name people she loves and admires who all sport dreadlocks, including her father and brother.
While the young star didn't name Rancic specifically in her post, Giuliana responded to her on Twitter.
"Dear @Zendaya, I'm sorry I offended you and others," she wrote on the social media site. "I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!"
