Malin Akerman is staying optimistic!
The actress -- who stunned at the Elle Women In Television Dinner on Wednesday -- appears in the new issue People magazine, where she opens up about her divorce and being a single mother.
"You put my dad in a pile of [crap] and he will find the positive in it,” the 37-year-old tells the mag. "I get that from him. I think everything happens for a reason. You just figure out why and you find the silver lining."
Akerman's definitely had her fair share of ups and downs -- in 2013 she ended her six-year marriage to Robert Zincone, with whom she shares 2-year-old son Sebastian.
"It was jarring at first," she says of the split. "It takes a minute to move through the emotions."
"But there is a beautiful thing about relationships where you grow each other to a point where you can't grow each other any more," she adds.
Nevertheless, Malin always looks for the positive ... even in the hardest of situations.
"You can't control life. I roll with the punches," she explains. "And ultimately, it's like, 'Where is the opportunity in this?' And that's been a nice way to look at it. Like, oh my God, I get to have so much special time with my son now."
Though she's open to dating again, the hot mama says any prospective boyfriends won't have it easy.
"It's hard because your heart is so full for your child, the next guy that comes along is going to have a lot of competition!" she jokes.
The "Billions" star also isn't worried about aging -- in fact, she's feeling better than ever about herself!
"I'm so happy to be 37 and not in my 20s anymore," she explains. "I just feel like I really do know myself better than I ever have. I feel very lucky."
