Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's kids are all about expressing themselves and their parents wouldn't have it any other way.
In a candid interview with BBC Radio 1xtra, the "Suicide Squad" star opens up about encouraging his teenage children, Willow and Jaden, to challenge norms -- something Will admits is "scary" and "terrifying."
"That may have been a mistake, we may have gone too far," Smith joked when host A.Dot asked about fostering individuality with his offspring.
That's when the UK rapper brought up people "making jokes about Jaden in women's clothes." ICYMI, Jaden has been open about rocking skirts in the past -- and even modeled womenswear for a recent Louis Vuitton ad campaign.
"There's a really powerful internal quality as an artist that as parents we encourage," said Will. "You gotta get out on the edge, you have to try things, you have to be comfortable doing things people don't agree with and comfortable doing things that you can fail."
As for his son, specifically, Will said Jaden is, "100% fearless, he will do anything. As a parent, its scary, it's really terrifying, but he is completely willing to live and die by his open artistic decisions and doesn't concern himself with that people think."
A.Dot also had daughter Willow on the mind, wondering whether the 15-year-old teen has a curfew like most kids her age. The answer, for Will, was a tricky one.
"You're hitting on a really difficult issue in our house," Will replied. "[Sons Jaden and Trey are] with six or seven dudes, they have a small army. Their freedom is slightly different than Willow's. We try to have the same rules, but it's a different world. The answer is yes, Willow has a curfew."
So, what time does she have to be home by? Will says 11-11:30 PM on the weekends -- but added that she "usually stretches it."
