John Cena calling it a "sacrifice" to "give" Nikki Bella a child didn't sit too well with Sunny Hostin this morning on "The View."
The panel kicked off Friday's episode discussing a preview clip from Sunday's new episode of "Total Bellas," where Cena changed his mind about having children just so he could get back together with his ex. His exact -- and very clinical -- words: "Relationship and marriage is about sacrifice, and I will make that sacrifice for you. I will give you a child."
Is This the Moment Nikki Bella Decided to Take Back John Cena? Why He Changed His Mind Over Having Kids
View StoryHis awkward phrasing and overall demeanor immediately raised some red flags for Hostin.
"Parenting is really hard and I think you have to go into it with an open heart and open mind, you have to be very selfless because you no longer come first," she said. "To say that you don't want children, but I want you so I'll give you one, I think it's on the road to disaster. I don't think you can pressure anyone to do anything they really don't want to, including having a child. I think that's just too serious. Parenting is too different."
"She wasn't pushing, she was being honest," added Sara Haines, who also thought the arrangement was odd. "Usually, you compromise on like, I'm gonna get rid of the man cave. He's like, I will give you a human instead."
Nikki Bella's Brother Says Breakup with John Cena Was NOT a Publicity Stunt
View Story"In my day you just got pregnant and you moved on," joked Joy Behar. "We didn't have this conversation, we just got pregnant."
Sunny said she was glad that didn't happen with Nikki, so people wouldn't think she was trying to "trap" John. "She didn't do that. She said I wanna do this and I want to do it with you, but if you don't want to do it, that's fine," she continued. "He looks like he's in a hostage video. He could barely say it!"
Meghan McCain chimed in saying she's a fan of the show and was rooting for them to get back together. Her hope was that he just "needed a little more time" to warm to the idea of children.
"I think sometimes men need a little push, like guys that are commitment phobic meet the right woman -- he's a huge star, huge wrestler -- I wish them the best of luck," she said. "I know a lot of guys that waited a long time. Sometimes men just need to mature. John Cena's 41, he's a big celebrity, a big star and maybe he just needed a little more time."
