New 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Trailer Touches Upon Freddie Mercury's AIDS Diagnosis

The clip not only touches upon lead singer Freddie Mercury's complicated sexuality but also his struggle with AIDS. The often sardonic, elated, and ferocious talent of a true rock god is profoundly embodied by the extraordinary Rami Malek, who appears to capture the magnetism of the mercurial singer.

The trailer provides glimpses of Mercury's sex life, such as meeting his girlfriend Mary Austin (Lucy Boynton) and then flashes of his male lovers.

"I love the way you move onstage, the whole room belongs to you," Austin says to him. "Don't you see what you could be?"

At one point in the trailer, Queen is at a press conference when Mercury is asked about his "private life" -- the clip quickly cuts to him in an intimate moment with another man in a studio.

Cutting back to the presser, Mercury responds: "What more do you need to know? I make music."

Later Mercury's health status is referenced. "I just need a bit of time," manager Jim Beach (Tom Hollander) says.

"What if I don't have time?" Malek's Mercury says in reply. This undoubtedly refers to the singer's AIDS diagnosis in 1987.

Of course the trailer emphasizes the iconic music from the band and how the songs were created. At one point, the band is concerned that no one will play them on the radio, so they decide to get creative. Enter the multiple "galileo" references in the hit "Bohemian Rhapsody," to which the film is titled.

"How many more galileos do you want?" bandmember Roger Taylor (Ben Hardy) yells at him, as the trailer shows him about to throw a bottle.

"Roger, there's only room in this band for one hysterical Queen," Mercury deadpans.

After the teaser trailer was released in May, some fans were worried that Mercury's difficult journey wouldn't be present in the film. But this full-length trailer proves the film will be jampacked with Queen's origin story as well as Mercury's. We have a feeling this film is definitely going to rock us.

The film also stars Gwilym Lee, Joseph Mazzello, Aidan Gillen, and Mike Myers.
