Jim Carrey made a passionate plea to Donald Trump supporters while appearing on "Real Time with Bill Maher" Friday night.
"If anything, if anything, we've got to get back to a place where we realize that a vote is not who you are," Carrey said. "And because you voted Republican you're not stupid, you're not different, you're not worthless. I can break bread with anybody who voted for Trump, we could find some common ground to love each other. Just stop doing stupid shit."
Jim Carrey Says His Trump Paintings Are A 'Gift From God'
View StoryCarrey, who wore his brand new "freedom-friendly" Nike sneakers, praised former President Barack Obama for bringing the country together, then tore into the 45th POTUS for ripping America apart.
"We have a president who started out when the country was together and had a wonderful leader," he said. "[Trump] is tearing us limb from limb, destroying every institution."
"He's a car salesman," Carrey continued. "He's a used car salesman, and he didn't make America great again but he did turn back the odometer."
Maher pointed out that the problems in the White House all come down to Trump's "narcissistic personality disorder." The HBO late-night host pointed one of Trump's responses to damning excerpts from Bob Woodward's book "Fear: Trump in the White House." No joke, President Trump said, "Accurate is that nobody has ever done a better job as I have as president."
"Job of what? Demolition man?" Carrey joked.
New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg said on the program that Trump says things that are "so outrageous" repeatedly that people begin to think that there is "something there."
"Even if he's not worth 10 billion dollars, he must be worth 1 billion dollars," Goldberg said as an example.
"He reported 100 and he was worth 5," Carrey added. "So that's the ratio of truth to bullshit... Anything he says is 20 to 1."
In Maher's opening monologue, titled "Threat Level Orange," the comedian joked that this was the week that Trump found out that "everyone hates him," including those that work for him, referencing the New York Times op-ed piece written by an anonymous member of the "resistance" within Trump's administration.
While other late-night hosts have suggested that Vice President Mike Pence is the mystery writer, Maher offered a new theory.
"I think it's General Kelly. I do," he said. "First of all, I think the McCain funeral was the last straw for several people. Look, he's not been happy for a very long time ... The list of people who have called the president an idiot... Kelly has been in there. I think in the Woodward book he says something like, 'We're in crazytown, there's no point in even trying to talk to him. He doesn't understand anything.'"
Nevertheless, whoever this mystery writer is, Maher offered his gratitude.
"I would like to say to them, 'Thank you for your service.' Seriously," he said. "Let me explain why. The United States has made the same mistake overseas so many times. Take out Saddam Hussein or somebody we don't like, and not think about: what comes next? Yes, Saddam Hussein was terrible, but what came next? ISIS. What comes next if these people, who are preventing him from doing really crazy things, go? I think General Kelly would love to leave. This has got to be worse than Iraq. He said it. He said, 'This is the worst job I've ever had.' He was in Fallujah."
