"I didnt even say he was a bad guy or to stop watching the show, I just said 'dont date people like that,'" the actress wrote.
Evan Rachel Wood has been forced to defend herself against "Stranger Things" fans.
Dedicated viewers of the Netflix series weren't happy after the "Westworld" star said on Friday that one should "never date a guy" like Chief Hopper (David Harbour) because of his "extremely jealous" and "violent rages" especially towards Joyce Buyers (Winona Ryder). In response to the backlash, Wood went on an impassioned Twitter rant and defended her comments regarding the show.

View StoryOn Monday, the actress tweeted, "Cue all the abusive people attacking me on twitter for posting a warning not to fall for abusive behavior like a popular tv character exhibited on a popular show because it reminds them of themselves and they feel personally attacked? Bring it on guys."
"I didnt even say he was a bad guy or to stop watching the show, I just said 'dont date people like that,'" she continued in another tweet. "But alas, abusers hear an attack and want a fight. Proving my point with their own retaliation."
When a troll questioned whether people should be taking relationship advice from Wood, she hit back, "Maybe so. But abusive relationship advice? 100 percent."
Evan Rachel Wood Talks Domestic Abuse, Brands R. Kelly 'Narcissistic Psychopath With God Complex'
View StoryAfter a second Twitter user said Wood should be using her platform for bigger issues, like President Donald Trump, instead of "attacking a fictional character," she replied, "I agree. Thats why I wrote my own law ensuring more rights for Domestic Abuse survivors called #ThePhoenixAct. Check it out and show support. It goes through the Assembly Public Safety Committee this week." Wood also added the link.
A third person brought up Wood's character from "Westworld," Dolores, and how someone should never date a person like her. "Indeed. I play a robot who murders people because they wouldnt stop raping and killing her for 30 years," Woods wrote. "Not saying thats right either. Though some would argue self-defense. Dolores is as single as they come."
Wood replied to multiple Twitter users after voicing her strong opinions about Hopper. See her responses as well as her original tweets, below.
You should never date a guy like the cop from #strangerthings Extreme jealousy and violent rages are not flattering or sexy like TV would have you believe.
@evanrachelwood
That is all.
She rescheduled the date he yelled and got in her face about while policing every guy she spoke to. No thanks.
@evanrachelwood
Cause I was severely abused and want to make sure it doesnt happen to anyone else?
@evanrachelwood
Yes I am aware its “just a show” and its set “in the 80s” even though this stuff was unacceptable then too, but thats exactly my point. Its just a show and this is a gentle reminder not to fall for this crap in real life. Red flags galore.
@evanrachelwood
Also I cant not laugh at the people assuring me its just a show but correcting me on the characters name. 😑
@evanrachelwood
She is allowed to stand him up without being screamed at. Especially when she is worried about her children. Priority number 1. He also insisted it wasnt a date and clearly he lied. She shouldnt have rescheduled. He should have gone to therapy.
@evanrachelwood
So he should be even more sensitive because of that. She is traumatized enough.

@evanrachelwood
Exactly. If this were real life I would suggest he go to therapy and not project his pain on other people in the form of abuse. Thats how the cycle starts.
