Selma Blair is determined to live her life as an "example" for her son Arthur.
In an interview with People for their latest cover story, the actress opened up about how her journey with multiple sclerosis has impacted her eight-year-old son. According to Blair, Arthur doesn't see her as "sick" but rather as "brave."

View Story"He's had to endure a lot; he's seen a lot," Blair said, adding Arthur has had to watch her fall downstairs or even rush to a bathroom if she's feeling sick.
The "Legally Blonde" star said Arthur doesn't view his mom's weaknesses negatively. "He says, 'Mommy's not sick. Mommy's brave,'" she recalled.
Blair, who revealed her MS diagnosis last October, expressed her surprise over how Arthur likes her visiting him at school.
"He said, 'I love when you come to school because you make the kids laugh and you answer all their questions,'" she recalled, adding that she doesn't mind explaining to the kids why she "walks and talks funny."
"I explain what's happening and that my voice doesn't hurt, and we have really decent exchanges," she added. "I had no idea Arthur was proud of that. I thought 'I'm probably an embarrassment,' but to know I'm not was one of my proudest moments."

The "Cruel Intentions" actress also spoke about co-parenting Arthur with her ex-boyfriend Jason Bleick, who she dated from 2010 to 2012.
"We have a flexible custody arrangement and Jason is a huge part of Arthur's life," she explained. "He's shown up in a big way. I'm really proud of us."
Blair added that living well is what keeps her going while suffering from the debilitating disease.
"This is it. The only life we get," she added. "My disease isn't a tragedy, but I tell myself, 'You're going to live in a way that would be an example for yourself and your son.'"

View StoryBlair has been very open with her followers and friends throughout her journey with MS. On Tuesday, the "Hellboy" star shared a photo of her using a type of treatment called a towel bath, which according to Blair, helps with her muscle spasms.
In the pic, the actress is seen laying in a large bath covered by a colorful Missoni towel.
"So. I spin the wheel again. the Rolodex of selfies," Blair began in the caption. "I stop on a pic a friend took of me trying to stop spasms by lying in warm water with a heavy towel with minerals in bath. Specific minerals."
"I recall posting this at the time and kind of being made fun of by some news outlets," she continued. "My skin wasn't as tough yet. And I took the picture down. The thing is, the heavy towel helped. My body would go into a kind of palsy. I was embarrassed and tried to turn them into mouth clicks instead."
Blair said despite receiving some negative feedback when she first posted the photo, she wanted to share her positive opinion of the treatment with others.
"But the energy had to go somewhere," she concluded. "The therapist recommended towels over me. It helped. She said it really helps her autistic patients. So I wanted to share. A warm bath with towels and a space heater in bathroom so water doesn't have to be so hot. We are in this together. I don't mind being ridiculed a bit anymore. We do what we need to do."
